Green Tips - The Beginning

October 3, 2008 08:02 by cherish

For over a year I have been putting together and sending out simple, easy to do "Weekly Green Tips" to our company. These tips started as an internal initiative to educate fellow co-workers across the US about various Green issues, our impact on the environment, and how, little by little we can help to improve things. I did not expect everyone to be on board, or even for everyone to do EVERY single one of the tips. If 1 person did 1 tip, then great! My hope was that people would see how easy it is to change everyday things, and do more and more tips as time went on.

And, as time went on, people in the office began commenting on the Green Tips, how informative they were and how they looked forward to them each Friday. I also get comments from what I call "the Peanut Gallery" which make light of many of the "Did you Knows?" in my tips, and their often humorous overtones. Their comments crack me up, and even better, it means that people are reading the tips!

Of course, not everyone is on board, as not everyone believes that there is even a problem with our deteriorating environment. That's OK, I understand that everyone has a right to their own opinion, which is why they can take, or leave the each Green Tip as the choose. They are meant to be helpful and fun, and not pushy in any way.

Now to clarify- I am not some Granola, Hippie, Green Guru, etc., AT ALL. I know that may be hard to believe, especially given my husbands latest blog, but really I am not. I don’t preach Green every waking moment, nor can I say that I practice EVERY one of the tips that I send out. I am truly just a normal everyday gal, that used plastic bags at the store, brushed my teeth with the water running, and would recycle once in a while, if a "hippie" friend was visiting and I wanted to look like I always recycled. It has only been within the past few years that I started to realize the impact they we have made on the environment, and that we can make changes with very little effort. And, I am not perfect, at least on this regard ;). I just try to do what I can, educate myself, and hope that by "paying it forward" with my simple tips that even just 1 person making 1 change, will make a difference.

What I did not expect is that today, not only am I sending these to everyone in our company, but may other people and companies have requested to be the distribution list as well! It seems that these little, harmless tips may just be working.

I can’t end this without given proper credit and a HUGE thanks to the many sources that I use to create each tip. Most of all www.idealbite.com, THANK YOU- You are such a great site and an endless source of fantastic advise, fun facts and helpful information. I also would like to thank www.greenlivingtips.com, www.earth911.com, and all the other sites and links that I have used out there, all providing a wealth of knowledge and offer terrific services to help our environment.

With that, I bring you a Weekly Green Tip (ok, maybe a few tips to start out). So sit back, enjoy, and don’t forget to check back often!
