Walmart won't compete with Walmart?

April 22, 2009 12:58 by bjones

Our cable internet has been going down about 6-7 times a day.  It's incredibly frustrating now that Cherish and I are both working from home.  Today COX came out to look and said the signal was strong and there was nothing wrong with the connection.  The tech recommending buying a new cable modem.  I looked online for his recommended Motorola Surfboard and found that Bestbuy had it for $79.99 and Walmart had it for $49.99.  No-brainer, right?  Wrong!

I got to Walmart and they were selling the $49.99 cable modem for $61.79.  $12 more?  Hmmm... I talked to one of the clerks and asked if they would price match their online site to which he replied "no."

Me: But if I go online and order the modem, it will ship to the store for free?

WE (Walmart Employee): Yes.

Me: Then why not just sell me this one for $12 off?

WE: We can't price match our online store.

Me: But you could save the shipping costs by just selling me this one for $12.

WE: No.

I need th modem so I bought it.  I will use it until the one I just bought online shows up in the store at which time I'll rebox this one and return it to save $12.  Some things in life just leave you guessing... I guess.
